Special Note:
* This juvenile gray whale was seen off San Diego in July 2014, on the Big Sur coast in late July, and off Santa Cruz in early August. I photographed it swimming among kayakers, and scuba divers, off San Carlos Beach on August 29th. It's a mystery why it is still in California waters, when it should be in Alaska. It may have lost it's mother and never went north. Although it was reported as undernourished at earlier sightings, it appeared healthy in Monterey, except for a heavy infestation of whale lice.
